Sogang University in Seoul said it was hit by an external hacking attack that exposed about 180,000 pieces of personal information. The university said it detected the breach three days after the attack and has since blocked the attack source and reported the incident to authorities.
The university reported that an unidentified outside actor targeted its integrated login account information, resulting in the leakage of personal data belonging to students, alumni, faculty, and others. Exposed information reportedly included student ID numbers, names, affiliations, mobile phone numbers, and passwords. The school said it discovered the attack on August 14 after the intrusion occurred on August 11. It has taken emergency response measures, blocked the attacker IP address, and is working with a cybersecurity firm while checking vulnerable points in its internal server.
