Foreign ministry-affiliated diplomatic academy suffers cyber breach

According to the Foreign Ministry, suspicious access to the Korea National Diplomatic Academy’s online education system was first detected by a government agency in early February, prompting the system to be shut down. Investigators found that an attacker had likely taken control of the server between April and May 2025 and maintained access until February 2026. The compromised server stored training videos and administrative information, including participants’ names and user IDs. Officials said the full extent of the leak has not yet been determined, but Reuters reported that the exposed data may be substantial and that authorities are investigating possible foreign state-backed involvement, including a North Korea link.
