A Chinese national hacker was forcibly repatriated from Thailand to South Korea after being arrested for leading a hacking organization that stole personal information from multiple domestic websites. The group used stolen data to create fraudulent 'budget phones' and embezzled over 38 billion Korean won.
Chinese national A, 40 years old, formed a hacking crime group in Thailand that targeted multiple South Korean websites from August 2023 to April 2025, stealing names and resident registration numbers. The organization embezzled over 38 billion Korean won by using the stolen personal information to massively open fraudulent 'budget phones' and create 'proxy phones' to withdraw deposits from victims' financial and virtual asset accounts. High-profile victims included BTS member Jungkook and conglomerate leaders ranked within the top 30 in the business world. The hacker was arrested in Thailand and repatriated to South Korea through an extradition process coordinated by the Ministry of Justice and Interpol.
