Unauthorized access to internal systems led to the theft of customer names, birth dates, and phone numbers.

In January 2023, South Korea’s third-largest mobile carrier, LG Uplus, discovered that a third party had gained unauthorized access to its customer management system. Initial reports confirmed the leak of personal data for 180,000 customers, which later expanded to 290,000. This incident was followed by a series of DDoS attacks, prompting a government-mandated "Special Security Action" for the company.
