Large-Scale Cyber Attack Targets 12 South Korean Academic Institutions

During the Lunar New Year holiday in January 2023, the Chinese-speaking but North Korean-linked hacking group "Xiaoqiying" successfully breached 12 South Korean academic institutions, including the Korea Research Institute for Construction Policy. The attackers defaced websites and leaked internal database information. The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) was forced to issue a nationwide emergency alert and increase the "Cyber Crisis" level to Caution.
