Saemaul Geumgo Reports Customer Data Leak Affecting Around 400, Promises Full Compensation for Damages

Saemaul Geumgo

A hacking attack on October 10 exposed personal and credit information belonging to approximately 400 customers. The institution reported the incident to financial authorities on October 13 and is notifying affected customers, promising compensation for damage caused by the leak.

Attackers used dozens of new IP addresses to bypass controls that had previously blocked abnormal overseas access. Exposed information varied by customer and included names, encrypted resident registration numbers, account numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, and account balances. Financial authorities are investigating the incident and whether it is connected to other recent AI-assisted attacks against South Korean financial institutions. Saemaul Geumgo is conducting individual notifications and has pledged full compensation for confirmed losses.
