Two mega churches hit by suspected data breaches

Sarang Community Church

Sarang Community Church in Seoul was suspected of suffering a breach affecting approximately 89,000 members and 286 employees. Stolen personnel and membership data were found on an external server, with logs indicating the data was taken in August.

The discovered material reportedly included names, addresses, and phone numbers of church members and employees, including the senior pastor. A security company identified the server while tracking infrastructure linked to suspected cyberattacks and reported the findings to authorities. The Korea Internet and Security Agency subsequently notified the church of the suspected breach. The church said it was investigating the incident and would implement measures to prevent further damage.
