Two mega churches hit by suspected data breaches
Yoido Full Gospel Church
Yoido Full Gospel Church reported that personal information of up to 850,000 members may have been exposed after the Korea Internet and Security Agency notified it of a suspected breach. Discovered data included names, dates of birth, and histories of changes to resident registration numbers, phone numbers, and addresses.
A cybersecurity firm found an external server containing data apparently stolen from the church and logs associated with suspected attacks. The church launched an emergency security review after receiving notification on October 6, 2026. The incident appears to have occurred in August, while the breach was newly disclosed in October. The exposed dataset included records for approximately 850,000 members, including thousands of changes to sensitive personal details.
