Public Health Network Breach Exposes 180,000 Patient Records

Korea Social Security Information Service (SSIS)

A vulnerability in the national healthcare information portal allowed unauthorized access to sensitive medical data.

The SSIS, which manages South Korea’s public health data, suffered a major leak when an internal vulnerability was exploited to exfiltrate 180,000 patient records across 17 different hospitals. The data included sensitive medical histories and resident registration numbers. The PIPC later issued a record fine for the agency’s failure to implement proper access controls.
